Purple bedrooms? I understand, believe me. You are perhaps imagining that gray is purple, just a bit… much. But listen, purple bedrooms are my THING and I promise you, purpled done well makes all the difference and results in the comfiest, dreamiest space you just don never want to left. Not to mention it is having a big moment at the moment, and quite honestly, it is long overdue 🙂
Why Purple Actually Works (Better Than You Think)
Before we delve into all the fun stuff, there’s really no better time to talk about why purple bedrooms are pure genius. Purple takes the soothing powers of blue and mixes it with the warmth of red to create this total balance that puts your brain straight into relaxation mode.
I found this to be very true when doing my first bedroom in a bright shade of violet yikes! However, when I found the wonder of steamed-down purples, lavenders, and elegant plum, all was different. Not only do these colors make you look good, they also assist you to sleep better.
1. Lavender Walls with Cream Accents
I will begin with my own preference, and there is the most beautiful lavender color walls, contrasted with creamy white trim and bedding. It is a sort of hot embrace to your eyes. Last year I painted my guest room this combination and so far all visitors request me to share with them the color of paint I have used.
The trick? Pick a lavender that’s gray based rather than pink. It feels classier and not little girl or anything. Add downy textured cream throws and pillows and instantly hydrated.

Pro tip: Paint with eggshell or satin finish paint- reflects the right amount of light so that you do not feel like you are in a cave.
2. Deep Plum Accent Wall Magic
Have you ever thought about why accent walls look so good? This is due to the effect they have on your eye to have a point of focus without compromising the space. The accent wall behind your headboard adds impact to the room instantly and balances the room as well.

I say be brave, go bright – think eggplant/a rich burgundy purple. To go with:
- Light gray or white on the other walls
- Gold or brass fixtures for warmth
- Crisp white bedding to prevent color overload
The contrast is simply stunning and to be honest so much more interesting than another plain beige bedroom.
3. Purple and Gray: The Ultimate Power Couple
A combination of this never fails. Purple walls and charcoal gray bedding or otherwise lie to make this elegant, hotel-ish atmosphere which I am absolutely down with.
Gray brings down the purple, tamping it up a notch making it grown up, elegant. Try this:

Purple Shade | Best Gray Match |
---|---|
Lilac | Dove gray |
Lavender | Charcoal |
Throw in some silver or pewter accents and you have a bedroom straight out of a design mag.
4. Dusty Purple with Natural Wood
And here is a secret. Warm tones of wood look fabulous with dusty purple. I found out about this when I did not know whether to paint my bedroom furniture or leave it with the natural oak finish.
The blend gives this idyllic rustic-romantic feel. The cool purple feels warm with the wood and the wood makes the purple feel fresh and surprising. This is perfect in reclaimed wood headboards, nightstands that are made of oak or even blinds of bamboo.

Adding Texture is Key
Texture, don I forget! This earthy, comfortable style is accomplished by woven baskets, jute carpets and linen drapes. This you can trust me on, smooth surfaces curiosity you know and any colour scheme will feel flat.
5. Purple Bedding for Commitment-Phobes
Too soon to do pictures? I can completely understand it. Purple beddings: purple beddings will get you started to purple bedroom living. Begin with a good amethyst duvet cover or lavender throw pillows on gray walls.

This will give you a taste of the water so to speak without committing (or the brush aftermath). It is also easy to change things up with the seasons. I think the most intelligent thing to do trying color would be like this.
6. Ombre Purple Walls (Yes, Really!)
That one sounds nuts, I know, but here me out. The walls are ombre walls with dark purple on the bottom and light lavender on the top, it makes this incredible cocoon effect that is surprisingly calming.

I was in doubt too until I saw it at a boutique hotel. The gradient trick gives your ceiling the illusion of being taller while at the same time providing non-stop visual interest that never becomes dull. Note that this technique needs some patience and some blending skills.
7. Purple Florals and Botanical Prints
purple floral wallpaper adds an English garden touch without going straight cottagecore. I mean hints of lavender roses, or tender purple sprays — not extravagant at all.
The key is balance:
- Choose patterns with lots of white or cream background
- Limit bold purple to small areas
- Mix in fresh greenery to prevent the sweetness overload’

This is a good idea if you feel the need to add personality but not claustrophobia in the small bedroom environment.
8. Monochromatic Purple Paradise
The full monochromatic purple makes things feel so indulgent, so engulfing- it would take some courage, but also makes the boldest amongst us look quite glamorous. Various tints of purple in the room, pale lilac of windows and deep violet of covers.

Secret sauce? Many diverse materials and finishes. Matte paint, shiny pillows, nubby throws, smooth silk-combining all these different effects on the textures does not make the room appear flat or two-dimensional.
9. Purple and Gold: Pure Luxury
It does not get more classic than deep purple with gold highlights. The duo has been in operation since the dawn of time (hey, royal energy!), but even in the present-day bedroom, there is something special in this combo.
Experiment with amethyst walls with touch fixtures of brass, golden-framed mirrors and metallic bedding warm accents. The purple does not appear cold and removed because of the warmth of gold. That said, you must not overdo it, a little **** goes a long ****.

Quick Gold Addition Ideas:
- Swap out silver drawer pulls for brass ones
- Add a gold-framed mirror above your dresser
- Choose table lamps with gold bases
10. Soft Purple Ceiling Surprise
Something most people have never even thought about… painting your ceiling a light purple color. Yeah yeah i know it sounds silly. But a pale lavender ceiling though creates this envelope effect that makes you feel like you are in a dreamy cloud room.

This goes best in white or cream colour rooms. The trendy purple ceiling has infused only the required amount of color so that it can use this fact of feeling special without making too much room. Also, this is much more interesting than regular white ceilings, right?
11. Purple Through Accessories and Art
Other times subtle is the most effective method. A neutral bedroom can be changed easily with purple art pieces, a couple of throw pillows, curtains and rugs. In this approach, you are able to manage how much purple you feel is suitable in your place.

Begin with a single element of statement perhaps a large purple abstract painting or a beautiful amethyst table lamps. Intern and from thencework on little accents. You can add more purple later but it is more difficult to tone it down when you overshoot to begin with.
Making Purple Work in Small Spaces
Have a small bedroom? You know purple can give an illusion of enlarging little spaces when done properly. The walls painted light purple reflect more light and give an illusion of having more space as opposed to using dark colors.
The secret is to keep other bits of your decorating light and airy. Off-white sheets, bare furniture and an abundance of mirrors work to keep that spacious feel, yet still gives you that purple fix.
Final Thoughts: Embrace the Purple Life
Look, I am telling the truth purple bedrooms are not everybody thing. However, at this stage you are, more than likely, already convinced (or, at least, interested), anyway. What makes the purple so pretty is that it can come in shades of barely-there lavender to luxurious royal purple; there is a shade that will suit every personality and every room.
My advice? But begin small and go easy on yourself and remember the point is that your bedroom is supposed to make you happy. And when a colored pollen makes you happy, then be happy! Don,t you think life is too short to have dull beige bedrooms? 🙂
You can take a completely purple paradise approach, or stick with a little lavender here or there, but these tips and tricks will help you make a cozy and fresh bedroom that is distinctly yours. Sweeter purple dreams to come!
